Department of Linguistics and Communication

Dr. Chomba E. Njoki, Ph. D, is the Head of the Department of Linguistics and Communication. The Department of Linguistics and communication is under the school of Humanities and Social Sciences. The department offers programmes at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels in Kiswahili, English and Literature.
The department services virtually all the departments in the university through the provision of a core course in Communication Skills. We mainly serve the School of Education in all language oriented courses.
The department has an exceptionally skilled and motivated staff that help our students attain their full potential. It is committed to mentoring and working closely with the students to foster and enhance their problem solving skills as part of a broader interdisciplinary proficiency.
We collaborate with other departments, institutes and campuses of the university and maintain good contact with local community and authorities.
Our need- tailored courses lead to lucrative job opportunities in teaching, publishing, media, translating and interpretation areas. This is a department which brings together motivated students, lecturers and researcher. The Department is committed to excellence in teaching and learning to facilitate student’s ability to understand, integrate, critically assess and apply the gained skills through a practical social transformation using leadership lens as a transformative tool for both their professional life as agents of change in the society.
